One of our pretty Silkie hens with two chicks keeping nice and cosy in Mum's lovely 'silky' feathers! Silkies originate from China - in fact, Marco Polo saw them there where they were used to hatch pheasant's eggs as well as their own.
This ewe is called Emily and she is quite an old lady at 10 years old. She's a cross between 'Rouge de l'ouest' - a breed originating in Central France and a 'Rough Fell' - a good hardy breed from the dales of Northern England. The 'rouge' bit refers to a 'redness' in the face wool ...they are the same basic breed as the 'Bleu de Maine' - which have a 'blue-ish' face.

Tilliemouse, one of our pedigree flock (of 4!) with her high-flying twin lambs. The tup (ram) is a Zwartble - originally a Dutch breed but introduced into the UK in the 1980s. Renowned for producing rapidly growing lambs...possibly with a tendency to climb??
